A wonderful and unusual Birr coin pendant depicting Emperor Menelik II of Ethiopia. These coins, sometimes called the “Menelik II thaler” in comparison with Maria Theresa thaler which circulated widely in the region, were minted during his reign, c. 1890s through the early 1900s.
